Adventurous 30th of March 2006
Thursday wasn't that bad. Was it? Finally I was defending my degree; finally it looked like coming to USA actually made sense ..lol...Frankly speaking it never will! I could have so easily stayed back and done something better; but then it was destined this way. I know many people don't believe in destiny.. well neither do I! At times though I cant help but wonder about situations in life when the options weigh equally and we end up choosing one that changes everything. Is it not destiny? Maybe it is...but anyways, let's not get into that.
So Thursday was pretty adventurous...After a happy session of defense and pizza party, I was feeling relieved; the only thing left to do now is to find a job and settle into it. What better way to celebrate than to play the football? Well the first choice was Cricket ofcourse but our playing arena was engaged ...Believe it or not some gOoSey fellows decided to use the tennis courts for playing tennis. They actually wanted to mis-use the courts in playing some other sport when we could actually play Cricket there ...Cricket- the best sport ever to be played on this planet!!...Anyways, of late we have developed this new liking to noT just watch (american)football but to plaY it too and believe me it's fun! It really is...
So as planned I reached the Nippert Stadium and if one is expected to show enthusiasm on the day he defends his MS ..I very much lived upto it. Was totally dressed for the occasion and was the first one to reach the venue ...At first glance the stadium looked really full- three different groups were playing football and I thought this idea is down the drain already. The rest of the gang arrived as per IST and by then two groups had finished up and we started our session of warm up. Some amrus and babbans arrived and offered to play together!
So for the first time in my life I was playing football with amrus, babbans and ofcourse my own desi gang in a footbaLL stadium. Wasn't I feeling special? As far as the teams were concerned it was globalization personified- the poor quarterback did not know his receivers at all. It was all instinctive and everbody was unsuccessfully trying to ape what they saw on tv ...at least I was ...lol ...but guess what! I ended up catching the ball twicE in the end zone (yeaH two touchdowns on debut!) and my babban quarterback was beginning to trust me when the unfortunate happened - guess that's why they have separate lineups to play on offense/defense...I was covering the oppostions' main receiver and he suddenly stopped to dodge me ...well i did too and in the process twisted my ankle bad; real reaL baD ...It was so painful that even my shallow pride (of leaving the field coz of a 'minor' injury) could not stop me from staying on. I did come back on later and thats when I made it worse. When I finally reached home that night, it was awful- excruciating pain and inability to even walk to kitchen and get a glass of water and the result - boring state of being bed-ridden on the very first spring weekend!
Looking back it wasnt that bad afterall - becoming a Master of Science and scoring two touchdowns on my NFL debut!!
